The 2023 Livewire Classic is in the books. This year saw a sold out event with 300 racers. The weather was wild and the on and off rain throughout the the day made for some epic trail conditions and great racing
Jonathan Withrow, team Ignites vet pro won this event last year and was looking for a repeat today. He had been putting in the work and training hard in the days leading up to the event. He was feeling good in practice, laying down some fast laps and looking to put in a solid race run. Withrow would be the first Ignite racer to drop. He left the start box sprinting hard into the first corner. He looked fast over the tunnel jump, pedaling down the hill and staying low over the first few table tops as he carried all the speed he could. He looked like he was on rails as he tore though the high speed corners. As Withrow came into the Livewire/Coaster intersection he suffered a devastating mechanical. His chain fell off, forcing him to continue the race without the ability to pedal. He fought hard all the way to the finish, pumping everything he could and trying to carry as much speed as possible. Withrow crossed the line P4. A solid finish given the circumstances.
Michael Ascarrunz was next to drop. Racing for Ignite in the Cat 1 mens 30-39. He left the start box with a good pace, coming into the first few corners without any mistakes. He looked smooth as he came over the tunnel jump carrying good speed and staying low over the first few table tops. Ascarrunz focused on minimizing mistakes and riding as smooth as possible, building speed as he made his way down the course. This proved to pay off as he sprinted his way across the finish, crossing the line P2. A solid run and a podium finish for team ignite.
